Lead Engineer AMI Network
Hammad Khalid is Lead Engineer for AMI Network at Eversource Energy, where he is responsible for the strategy, design, optimization, and operation of advanced metering infrastructure (AMI) communication networks. In this role, he leads efforts to ensure reliable, high-performance connectivity that supports large-scale utility deployments and enables the continued evolution of smart grid and distributed energy systems.<br /><br />With more than two decades of experience in wireless communications and network engineering, Hammad has built deep expertise across RF performance, network design, and next-generation mobile technologies. Prior to joining Eversource, he spent nearly a decade at T-Mobile as a Senior RF Engineer, where he played a key role in the design, deployment, and optimization of 5G NR, LTE, and VoLTE networks across the New England market. His work included capacity planning, coverage design, and advanced optimization strategies to improve network performance, user experience, and system reliability.<br /><br />Hammad has been at the forefront of applying automation and analytics to network operations. He developed Python-based tools to automate performance monitoring and troubleshooting, significantly reducing response times and improving operational efficiency. He also led initiatives to leverage large-scale data analytics and visualization platforms to identify trends, optimize network performance, and guide strategic decision-making. His experience with Self-Organizing Network (SON) technologies further enhanced automation and reduced manual intervention across complex network environments.<br /><br />Earlier in his career, Hammad held RF engineering and leadership roles at MetroPCS, Sprint-Nextel, Mobilink, Nortel Networks, and Huawei Technologies. Across these roles, he gained extensive experience in GSM, CDMA, and LTE network planning, performance optimization, and infrastructure deployment, working across both U.S. and international markets.<br /><br />Known for his ability to bridge deep technical expertise with operational execution, Hammad brings a practical, results-driven approach to solving complex connectivity challenges. Today, his work focuses on advancing AMI network capabilities to support grid modernization, enabling utilities to deliver more reliable, efficient, and data-driven energy services.
