Utility Strategies for Managed EV Charging, Solar Visibility and TOU Optimization

Customer participation is central to the success of utility EV and DER programs. In this session, Tampa Electric and SMUD will share how they are advancing customer-facing and grid-facing strategies through managed EV charging, solar visibility and time-of-use optimization, supported by Itron's EV Load Control Switches and Net2Grid's EnergyAI® edge intelligence platform. 

Tampa Electric will detail how Itron EV Load Control Switches were deployed to integrate EV charging into both a demand response framework and a time-of-use rate structure, spanning its Prime Time Plus and Energy Planner programs. Attendees will learn how this approach supports peak load reduction, improves load shape and delivers customer value through bill credits and access to lower energy rates. 

SMUD and Net2Grid will explore how Distributed Intelligence-enabled, real-time DER awareness, with Net2Grid's EnergyAI® operating directly on the grid edge, enables accurate identification of EV and solar customers without cloud-based analytics. We anticipate these capabilities to accelerate TOU program enrollment, EV managed charging initiatives and solar rebate programs, while supporting grid reliability use cases such as targeted load shedding and planning. 

Together, these case studies demonstrate how customer-focused program design, edge intelligence and load control technology can increase participation, improve satisfaction and support broader grid flexibility goals.
